An AB Sciex API 5000 LC-MS/MS system. The liquid chromatograph front end separates the mixture and delivers it to the ion source. The source converts the eluent into gas-phase ions. What Agilent says about this platform
SCIEX introduced the API 5000 in 2005 around QJet ion guide technology, the first RF-only quadrupole built to compress ions at high pressure before they enter the vacuum chamber. That prefocusing improves sensitivity and signal-to-noise over the ion optics used in earlier Applied Biosystems triple quadrupoles. A Turbo V ion source, the same family used on the API 4000 and Triple Quad 4500, ionizes the LC eluent. The analyzer covers a mass range of m/z 5 to 1,250, with mass accuracy to within 0.01 percent across that range using an internal reference. A pulse-counting detector runs up to roughly 1,000,000 counts per second. One independent reseller specification sheet rates the API 5000 at about five times the sensitivity of the Sciex 4500. What each module does
Liquid chromatograph
Separates the mixture and delivers a reproducible gradient to the source. This listing does not specify a bundled HPLC brand; a compatible front end is sold separately or paired at the bench.
Ion source
A Turbo V source converts the liquid eluent into gas-phase ions, with a QJet ion guide prefocusing them before they reach the vacuum chamber.
Mass analyzer
Two quadrupoles flank a collision cell. The first selects a precursor, the cell fragments it, and the second measures a product ion at trace levels.
Vacuum and detection
Stages the ions from atmosphere to high vacuum, then counts them with a pulse-counting detector.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
