What you are buying
Most petrochemical, environmental, and food-safety methods call for the capillary GC separations the Agilent 7890B runs. Electronic pneumatic control meters the carrier gas to 0.001 psi; the heated inlet vaporizes the sample and carries it onto the column; the oven programs from 4 to 450°C; the detector measures each compound as it elutes. GenTech rebuilds, plumbs, and tests the inlets, detectors, and flow path. You receive a GC that arrives verified and ready to run your methods.
Every unit moves through the GenTech Certified process. Solution Scientists disassemble and inspect each module, replace all consumables and degraded wear components, then tune and calibrate the instrument and verify performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals. The instrument ships with its verification report. A certified-refurbished system gives you that performance without the capital cost or the lead time of a new purchase.
What Agilent says about this platform
Agilent positions the 7890B as the most widely used GC system in the world. The system pairs accurate temperature control with precise injection and enhanced electronic pneumatic control for retention time performance. Retention Time Locking maintains the same retention time from injection to injection, column to column, instrument to instrument, and lab to lab. Capillary Flow Technology enables Deans-switch multidimensional GC, two-dimensional GC with flow modulation, and backflush at any point along the column. A single-filament TCD skips the separate reference gas and the manual potentiometer adjustment. It holds a stable baseline with minimal drift. Agilent’s Inert Flow Path raises sensitivity for active compounds from injection through detection. Low Thermal Mass modules, up to four per system, speed sample throughput with rapid column heating and cooling.
What each component does
Inlet
Vaporizes the sample and delivers it to the head of the column. Split/splitless handles routine concentrations; the multimode and PTV inlets add programmed temperature for trace work and thermally fragile compounds; cool on-column places the sample directly on the column for the heaviest analytes. The 7890B holds up to two inlets.
Column oven
Programs from 4 to 450°C across 20 ramps and 21 plateaus, with fast ramping to 75°C per minute on a 120 V oven and higher on 240 V. Faster ramps and a four-minute cool-down cut cycle time at the lowest cost per sample.
Electronic pneumatic control
Meters carrier and detector gases to 0.001 psi and 0.05 mL/min and compensates for changes in ambient pressure and temperature. Precise pneumatics are the basis for the retention-time repeatability every quantitative method depends on.
Detectors
The 7890B carries up to three detectors matched to the chemistry: FID for hydrocarbons and general organics, TCD for fixed gases, micro-ECD for halogens and pesticides, NPD for nitrogen and phosphorus, and FPD for sulfur and phosphorus. Flow splitting sends one injection to two detectors for more information per run.
Capillary Flow Technology
Provides leak-free, in-oven connections for backflush, Deans-switch heart-cutting, and two-dimensional GC without cryogen. Backflush vents heavy matrix before it reaches the detector or the MS source, which protects the flow path and removes carryover.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
