What you are buying
Most assay, impurity, and trace-analysis methods in pharmaceutical, environmental, and food labs run on the liquid chromatography the Agilent 1100 delivers. The pump drives the mobile phase through the column at constant, reproducible flow; the sampler injects a precise volume; the column compartment holds temperature steady; the detector measures each compound as it elutes. GenTech rebuilds and tests the pump, sampler, thermostat, and detector, then verifies the stack as a system. You receive an HPLC that arrives ready to run your methods.
Every unit moves through the GenTech Certified process. Solution Scientists disassemble and inspect each module, replace all consumables and degraded wear components, then tune and calibrate the instrument and verify performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals. The instrument ships with its verification report. A certified-refurbished system gives you that performance without the capital cost or the lead time of a new purchase.
What Agilent says about this platform
Agilent introduced the 1100 Series in 1995 as a modular HPLC platform: pumps, detectors, samplers, and column compartments combine to match the method. An electronically activated inlet valve, synchronized to piston strokes, eliminates vapor formation in volatile solvents. A high-speed proportioning valve and a pre-configured vacuum degasser mix solvents at low pressure without helium sparging. The diode-array detector runs from 190 to 950 nm across 1,024 diodes, with deuterium and tungsten lamps supplying the light and a programmable slit setting wavelength resolution. A Peltier-based thermostatted column compartment holds temperature at ambient, sub-ambient, or above-ambient setpoints. Agilent built in diagnostics that flag most failures for on-site or remote troubleshooting. ChemStation or Clarity software runs the system from a computer. An operator can also run it from a hand-held controller.
What each module does
Pump
Delivers the mobile phase at constant flow and blends the gradient. Isocratic, binary, and quaternary configurations cover everything from single-solvent assays to four-solvent method scouting. Stable flow is the basis for the retention-time reproducibility every quantitative method depends on.
Sampler
Draws a precise volume from the vial or well plate and injects it onto the column. Automated sampling runs unattended sequences overnight.
Column compartment
Holds the column at a set temperature, which fixes selectivity and retention time. Temperature control turns a method written in one lab into the same method in another.
Detector
Measures each compound as it leaves the column. The diode-array detector records full UV-visible spectra for identification and purity; variable-wavelength, fluorescence, refractive-index, and evaporative light-scattering detectors cover the analytes UV cannot see.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
Labs that run this system
The 1100 HPLC is method-compatible across the techniques most regulated and research labs run every day. These are the application areas buyers ask about most.
Assay, Impurity and dissolution
The 1260 transfers cleanly into USP monograph assays, related-substance profiling, and dissolution testing. Quaternary blending simplifies mobile-phase transfer between labs.
EPA HPLC methods
Diode array detection supports EPA HPLC methods for contaminants and residues in water and soil, including PAHs, explosives, and carbamates.
Additives and vitamins
The system quantifies preservatives, sweeteners, organic acids, and fat-soluble vitamins at the throughput a production-support lab needs.
Cannabinoid potency
HPLC with UV detection is the reference technique for potency. The 1260 resolves the major cannabinoids for compliance and label-claim testing.
Botanical actives
Labs quantify polyphenols, flavonoids, and marker compounds in extracts and nutraceutical formulations across long, reproducible sequences.
Screening and drug monitoring
The 1260 runs HPLC-UV workflows for therapeutic drug monitoring and drugs-of-abuse screening, where method portability and uptime matter more than peak novelty.
Purity and additives
Industrial labs separate and quantify synthesis intermediates, polymer additives, and stabilizers for QC and release testing.
Four-solvent scouting
Agilent recommends the quaternary pump for method development. Blend up to four solvents to scout selectivity before you lock a final method.
Proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics
Many omics workflows use mass spectrometry for detection and rely on LC for separation. The 1260 serves as the front end feeding your MS or fraction collector.
