What you are buying
A refurbished Agilent 6490 Triple Quadrupole LC/MS with a 1290 Infinity HPLC front end, fitted with Agilent’s InfinityLab PFC-Free HPLC Conversion Kit. The 1290 pump and sampler separate the mixture and deliver a reproducible gradient to the source. The 6490’s iFunnel ion source converts the eluent into gas-phase ions with high efficiency. The triple quadrupole isolates a precursor, fragments it, and measures the product ion at trace levels. The conversion kit reduces the PFAS background the LC’s own solvents and components would otherwise introduce. GenTech rebuilds and tests the LC, the source, and the analyzer, then verifies the system end to end.
Every unit moves through the GenTech Certified process. Solution Scientists disassemble and inspect each module, replace all consumables and degraded wear components, then tune and calibrate the instrument and verify performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals. The instrument ships with its verification report. A certified-refurbished system gives you that performance without the capital cost or the lead time of a new purchase.
What Agilent says about this platform
Agilent built the 6490 around iFunnel technology, combining Jet Stream thermal gradient focusing, a hexabore capillary, and a dual ion funnel to carry more ions from the source into the analyzer. A curved collision cell steers ions away from neutral background noise before they reach the second quadrupole. Agilent reports sensitivity down to the attogram level for well-behaved compounds. Agilent’s InfinityLab PFC-Free HPLC Conversion Kit reduces the background from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances that ordinary HPLC solvents and components introduce into a PFAS method. Agilent tested the kit against 38 target analytes and found no background for 36 of them; small traces of two compounds, PFBA and 6:2 FTS, remained detectable even with the full kit and its delay column installed. Agilent does not sell this kit directly to the general public; it typically ships pre-installed on a system already configured for PFAS work.
What each module does
Liquid chromatograph
Separates the mixture and delivers a reproducible gradient to the source. The 1290 Infinity front end runs the same pumps and samplers as a standalone HPLC, rated to 1,200 bar.
PFC-Free Conversion Kit
Replaces solvent-path components prone to PFAS leaching, cutting background contamination for trace fluorochemical methods.
iFunnel ion source
Converts the liquid eluent into gas-phase ions. Jet Stream, a hexabore capillary, and a dual ion funnel work together to carry more ions into the analyzer than a conventional source.
Mass analyzer
Two quadrupoles flank a curved collision cell that steers ions away from neutral background noise. The first selects a precursor, the cell fragments it, and the second measures a product ion at trace levels.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
