What you are buying
Environmental, forensic, and food-safety methods that identify and confirm compounds by mass run on the GC-MS the Agilent 7890A and 5975 deliver together. The 7890A separates the mixture on a capillary column; the sample crosses a heated transfer line into the 5975; the source ionizes each compound; the quadrupole scans the mass range or watches selected ions for trace quantitation. GenTech rebuilds, plumbs, and tests the GC’s inlets, detectors, and flow path, then cleans and calibrates the MSD, and verifies the complete system end to end.
Every unit moves through the GenTech Certified process. Solution Scientists disassemble and inspect each module, replace all consumables and degraded wear components, then tune and calibrate the instrument and verify performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals. The instrument ships with its verification report. A certified-refurbished system gives you that performance without the capital cost or the lead time of a new purchase.
What Agilent says about this platform
Electronic pneumatic control on the 7890A meters carrier and detector gases to 0.001 psi and 0.05 mL/min, compensating for changes in ambient pressure and temperature. The oven programs from 4 to 450 degrees Celsius across 20 ramps and 21 plateaus. The 5975 MSD attached to it runs a hyperbolic quadrupole mass filter covering a mass range of roughly 1.6 to 1,050 u. A Triple-Axis HED-EM detector improves signal-to-noise over the older off-axis detector designs used on earlier Agilent MSDs. Electron ionization produces reproducible, library-searchable spectra; an optional chemical ionization source preserves the molecular ion for confirmation. Agilent ChemStation software controls acquisition and library searching.
What each component does
Inlet
Vaporizes the sample and delivers it to the head of the column. Split/splitless handles routine concentrations; the multimode and PTV inlets add programmed temperature for trace work and thermally fragile compounds.
Column oven
Programs from 4 to 450°C across 20 ramps and 21 plateaus, with fast ramping to 75°C per minute on a 120 V oven and higher on 240 V.
Transfer line and ion source
Carries the separated compounds into the 5975 at controlled temperature. Electron ionization produces reproducible, library-searchable spectra; optional chemical ionization preserves the molecular ion for confirmation.
Mass analyzer
A hyperbolic quadrupole filters ions by mass. It scans a full spectrum for identification or holds on selected ions for the lowest detection limits in quantitation.

What “GenTech Certified” means
Refurbishment at GenTech is a defined process, not a wipe-down. Every system moves through the same five stages.
1. Disassembly and rebuild. Solution Scientists strip the instrument down, clean each module inside and out, and rebuild it from the frame up. They replace pump seals, pistons, and check valves to specification.
2. Configuration and new parts. Solution Scientists install the options and modules you selected and fit new wear parts throughout. They replace the detector lamp with a new one and reset the lamp hours.
3. Diagnostic and performance testing. Solution Scientists tune and calibrate the instrument, run system diagnostics, and confirm detector wavelength accuracy. They test full-system pressure and gradient performance against OEM and published benchmarks using known reference chemicals.
4. Data package you approve before shipment. The verification data goes to you for approval before the system leaves the bench. You see exactly how the instrument performs before it ships.
5. Delivery and installation. The instrument ships in protective packing with a one-year warranty option and professional installation available from a GenTech Solution Scientist.
