Over the years GenTech has had new looks and expanded into new facilities. But what has never changed is our integrity in all things, and our commitment to our customers to provide instruments and service that exceeds expectations. As GenTech celebrates 25-years of success and leadership in the refurbished analytical instruments industry, we invite you to take a look back through the years with us…
1996 — GenTech Scientific, Inc. was launched in January 1996 by founder Clair Bragg to service and repair GC/MS systems. The company soon evolved into analytical instrument refurbishment and sales.
1998 — Two things allowed GenTech to expand capabilities and further meet the needs of laboratories – hiring chemists, and the move to a new 1,800 square foot facility.
1999 — GenTech continued to focus on hiring employees with chemistry and biology backgrounds which allowed for the addition of Liquid Chromatography instruments to GenTech’s list of supported systems.
2000 — Now with more than 20 employees, a 10,300 square foot expansion increased bench space for repairs and refurbishment and provided more space for growing inventory.
GenTech attended its first Pittcon trade show with “Used but Not Abused” pins proudly displayed.
2001 — Kicking off what would become a 25-year legacy of giving back, GenTech generously donated a complete GC/MS system to the Alfred State College Physical and Life Sciences Department to replace a vital instrument that was broken.
2003 — Continued growth: GenTech moved to our current location at 23 Mill St Arcade NY. The new facility doubled the size of the old building at 22,000 square feet.
2004 — The New York State Assembly recognized GenTech Scientific as Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.
2005 — The first of several new looks still to come, GenTech adopted a new logo and began offering new services such as instrument rental options and an instrument exchange and loaner program.
2007 — The introduction of Circuit Board Repair and Exchange Service offered another invaluable service for customers. GenTech’s continued goal has always been to help our customers save time and money.
Continuing GenTech’s legacy of supporting WNY Universities, GenTech was proud to donate a PerkinElmer Sciex API III Plus to the chemistry departments of three WNY universities: University at Buffalo, Buffalo State College, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
2008 — The GenTech Technical Institute was established to offer customized, hands-on training on basic operation, instrument maintenance, ASTM methods, instrument theory and troubleshooting.
2012 — Business First ranked GenTech #33 among the top 50 Fast Track Companies in WNY for 2012.
At the end of 2012, GenTech launched a brand-new website along with a new logo. The new site made it easier for customers to request the systems and services they wanted.
2014 — Given our continued growth, GenTech needed more room. A facility expansion more than doubled – nearly tripled – the size of the facility to 60,000 square feet, providing the capability to have more “ready to ship” equipment for our customers, faster rentals, and more bench space for repairs and service. We added Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry instruments and Scanning Electron Microscopes to our ever-growing list of services and instruments.
2015 — Consistent. Focused. Teamwork.
This motto helped GenTech grow and succeed. In 2015, we hired many new employees to meet the needs of our customers, and reinvested in our Accounting, Delivery and Operations groups to improve efficiency and on-time performance.
In anticipation of our 20-year anniversary, we produced a video history of GenTech’s accomplishments to date.
2016 — GenTech Celebrates 20 Years of Serving the Scientific Community!
A highlight of our 20th Anniversary celebration was the Giveaway of analytical systems to 3 lucky winners.
Since our 20th Anniversary….
With our continued growth, we are always in need of quality inventory. In 2017, GenTech began spreading our Wanted/We Buy message. We buy a wide range of equipment from Agilent, Thermo, Waters, AB Sciex, Shimadzu, PerkinElmer, and More! Contact GenTech to sell your unused assets for cash!
GenTech acquired a partnership with HTA which introduced multiple autosamplers that can combine functions of an autosampler for liquid, static headspace and solid-phase microextraction in a single unit.
By 2018, GenTech’s support to laboratories involved in the legal Cannabis industry had grown immensely. A Cannabis section added to our website explained requirements and steps to opening a cannabis testing lab. We continue to spread the message that GenTech offers the instruments required to test cannabis at a fraction of the cost of new instruments. With our instrument expertise and extended warranties, GenTech can help alleviate the cost of starting a cannabis testing lab.
2020 — Like other businesses across the country – and the world – GenTech faced challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the economy and changed the ways we do business. Yet, a number of positive things were happening. In July 2020, GenTech was acquired by Lakelet Capital, LLC, and became GenTech Scientific LLC. New ownership has brought new management, new investment, new branding, and new systems to improve performance and capacity in every aspect of the business, including inventory management, financial processes, customer relationship management, and more. So, as we celebrate 25 Years of Serving the Scientific Community, we will also celebrate our 1-year anniversary with Lakelet Capital.
2021— In February we launched our fresh new look and our new logo.
In April, GenTech was named a “2021 Best Places to Work” by Buffalo Business First.
In June, GenTech launched a beautiful new website with an eye toward adding even more features over time to better serve our customers. Several new initiatives such as ‘Customer of the Month’ and ‘Tech Tips Tuesday’ have been launched to highlight and inform.
In July, the Arcade Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony at GenTech to commemorate our two anniversaries. Our local hometown newspaper, The Arcade Herald, featured GenTech Scientific in an article this month.
GenTech has continued to support education and our local communities in various ways, including a sponsorship of a Play4JA team (Junior Achievement), sponsoring (and playing in) the Arcade Area Chamber of Commerce’s golf tournament, and a donation to the University at Buffalo. We’ve gladly abandoned the virtual trade shows of 2020, and thus far this year have attended SOFT, MJBizCon, ASMS, and the CWCB Expo.
We’ve expanded the number of Preferred Partners we work with to provide our customers the best products and services possible.
In celebration of our 25th Anniversary, we are once again conducting a Giveaway – $25K for 25Years! One lucky winner will win $25,000 towards the purchase of equipment for their laboratory. (Entry deadline is November 12th at noon; drawing on November 15th.)
Over the past 25 years, GenTech has grown as a full-service, multi-vendor refurbished analytical instrument reseller. It has been our privilege, and remains our mission, to provide our customers in the scientific community with expertly refurbished analytical instruments, supported by service that exceeds expectations.
We hope readers enjoy this look back through the past 25 years at GenTech Scientific. We’re proud of our accomplishments, and are certain that the best is yet to come!
